Axis Powers Hetalia - Episode 44

Whoa! This was up really really early! I actually already saw this this morning but . . . I was busy with other things, ehehe~ Well, I'm happy that this was up early because I don't know if I'll have time for this tomorrow. And another reason is also because this is the first moment in the anime between my beloved North American twins~ Squeeee~

[ VASH and HIS SISTER ]

Episode started with Vash (Switzerland) teaching Liech (my shortcut for Liechtenstein) on self-defense and also about wild animals. She looked so fragile that I'm happy that Vash didn't want to leave her weak and defenseless. He protects her, but he'd still want her to be okay in case he won't be around. Daaaaw~ Sibling love~

However, his drawings are just too cute that it's distracting~ Haha! Liech, you're not alone! She even wanted his drawings . . . and of course he'll spoil her. Ohohohoho~
I find it amusing that in his drawings, his example of a stranger is Roderich (Austria). Oh Vash, you hate that guy that much? . . .Nah, you're just tsundere to him. Ohohoho~

The episode ended with poor Liech in the rain with nothing to eat. Her country's suffering from depression and this is of course a flashback because she still has her long hair in this time (she is sooooooo pretty). This was the Vash + Liech moment I've been waiting for but it was saved for a later episode. Darn . . .
[ KIKU and ALFRED ]

How do people become friends? They get to know each other . . and it's the same with countries!

This portion shows Alfred's weird cakes . . . so weird that they can't be edible . . . but they look exotic and fancy enough to be worth taking a picture of. I understand Kiku's (Japan) feelings . . . I saw such cakes . . . and I couldn't eat such either . . . but it was fun to look at them~
I wonder what they really taste . . . . if they indeed taste as weird as they look . . . . shows that Alfred is the same with Arthur (England), but it's with baking instead of cooking. Haha!

[ NORTH AMERICAN TWINS ]
I consider Veneziano and Romano as twins because they look so identical . . .but Romano's actually 2 years ago. But this time, it's the real twins in Hetalia! They are hell more identical than the Italian brothers . . . but great opposites in personality! Hahaha!

Poor dear Matthew (Canada). . . .being bullied because of being mistaken as his brother. I find it weird that they still don't recognize that he's Matthew after they easily made him have bumps on his head . . . I don't remember seeing Alfred with bumps on his head . . . except for the time when he slipped because of a banana peel I think. Haha!
Back to Matthew, does he really look angry with that face? Hahaha! And that tone of his voice . .. it's soooooooooooooooooo soft. You can never think of him as being angry with that volume. Haha.

Anyway, Matthew has the guts to complain even with his gentleness. His dear brother is busy at the moment that he can't hear Matthew very well.
Afred . . . black sleeveless shirt . . . *drools* . . . .wear that or something like that often please~

Back to the scene, as Alfred says that he thinks Matthew needs something from him, he just had to point that chainsaw at him. Hahahahha!!!! What sane person would not to think of you having killing intentions for doing that, Alfred! hahahaha!

You even had to make that evil look! Bwahahhahaha! Alfred may be afraid of ghosts, but I don't think he minds horror that involves torture. Thus, we have movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. (I forgot which part I've seen, but I remember being scared when I watched it!)
Poor Matthew . . . your brother is such an expert in giving you a heart attack . . .hahaha!

Matthew changed topic and greeted Alfred like reminding him that they're brothers and are in good terms. Haha! But Alfred says that he just can't hear what Matthew was saying (Matthew's voice is very very very soft after all). Oh Alfred, you might not do it intentionally, but you activate the chainsaw everytime Matthew speaks up! Hahahaha!!! You evil brother, you~

I know I've said this for so many times already but . . .really . . .POOR MATTHEW!!!! *hugs*
But I can't hate Alfred because he's just a natural jerk. LOLz~

[ SOLO SCENES ]

Yay Vash!

Liechtenstein's sooooooooo cute~

Oh Kiku~

Alfred oh you look so much like....

MATTHEW!!!! So freakin' identical that I no longer need to imagine Alfred doing expressions he never does because of Matthew's existence. Hehehehehe

Hmmm . . . most likely there'll be the Switzerland + Liechtenstein moment in the next episode . . . but I wonder what else. Oh please more of the Matthew series~

Blue Literature - The Heart of Things (Episode 7 & 8) Preview

This was kind of delayed . . . but it's not yet too late!

Here's a sneak preview of the third story arc in the Aoi Bungaku series:
Soseki Natsume's Kokoro!

ABOUT

The Heart of Things or Kokoro is a novel by the Japanese author Natsume Sōseki. It was first published in 1914 in serial form in the Japanese newspaper Asahi Shinbun. While the title literally means "heart", the word contains shades of meaning, and can be translated as "the heart of things" or "feeling". The work deals with the transition from the Japanese Meiji society to the modern era, by exploring the friendship between a young man and an older man he calls "Sensei". It continues the theme of isolation developed in Soseki's immediately preceding works, here in the context of interwoven strands of egoism and guilt, as opposed to shame. Other important themes in the novel include the changing times (particularly the modernization of Japan in the Meiji era), the changing roles and ideals of women, and intergenerational change in values, the role of family, the importance of the self versus the group, the cost of weakness, and identity.

During the novel's initial serial run, from April 20 to August 11, 1914, it was printed under the title Kokoro: Sensei no Isho ( Kokoro: Sensei's Testament). When later published in novel form by Iwanami Shoten, its title was shortened to Kokoro; the rendering of the word "kokoro" itself was also changed from kanji to hiragana.

PLOT

The novel was written in 1914. It is set a few years previous and is divided into three parts. In the first part, Sensei and I, the narrator, a guileless university student, befriends an older man, Sensei (most of the characters' real names are not given). Sensei lives as a recluse, interacting only with his wife and the narrator, and occasional unseen visitors, but still maintaining a distance between himself and them. He regularly visits the grave of a friend, but for the moment refuses to tell the narrator any details of his earlier life.

In the second part, My Parents and I, the narrator graduates and returns to his home in the country to await his father's death. As his father lies dying, the narrator receives a letter from Sensei which is recounted in the third part of the novel, Sensei and His Testament. Sensei reveals that in his own university days he was cheated out of most of his fortune by his uncle. As a result he moved to Tokyo and began rooming with a widow and her daughter, with whom he fell in love. Later he convinced his childhood friend (known only as K), who was in dire straits, to move in with him. Gradually K recovered, but also fell in love with the landlady's daughter. K confessed this love to Sensei, who was shocked, and later full of jealousy. Sensei then proposed marriage, and shortly after, K committed suicide. Sensei, who had lost his faith in humanity after being cheated by his uncle, was horrified to find the same dark impulses lurking in his own heart, and felt a heavy guilt for the death of his friend. In the present, 1912, Sensei is prompted by the suicide of General Nogi Maresuke (following the death of the Meiji Emperor) to take his own life, writing the letter to his only friend to explain his decision.

QUICK IMPRESSIONS

I'm not yet done reading the original adaptation of this story but I'm liking it so far. The anime looked different from what I had expected though. Might've been No Longer Human's influence. Yeah, I expected it to be much darker because Sensei's a pretty gloomy person. Hehe.
But hhhmm . . . if the main character from No Longer Human is a Light (of Death Note) look-alike, the main character of this one is a Shuujin (of Bakuman) look-alike. Because of that I could not stop giggling when I see his face . . .damn.

Manga Discoveries: Usagi Drop, Flat, My Girl, and ft. Gakuen Babysitters!

I have this addiction of checking out new manga even though my reading list is already damn long. Hopefully my manga hunting will help you in picking new manga to read =D

This time, I'll also be featuring new series that I've worked on. Of course whatever I've touched is awesome and will have special treatment, haha! So here goes:

[ FEATURED: GAKUEN BABYSITTERS ]
by TOKEINO Hari

After their parents are killed in a plane crash, Ryuuichi and his younger brother Kotarou are taken in by the chairman, who they never met before, of an elite academy. Ryuuichi becomes the school daycare's new babysitter.

The title reminds me of the Baby-sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin. I haven't really read any of its books, but I drop by at bookstores so often that I have been familiar with many titles.

Anyway, stories about babysitters aren't really my thing. But this is a Lala series, and I like a lot of series under that magazine. And besides, the art seems cute, so I guess it's worth the try!

Now that I've read it, to be honest, it bored me. Perhaps it's because I'm not fond of stories about babysitters and neither am I fond of babies (I'm scared of them actually. My baby niece and I still don't get along x_x). However, I have to admit that this series had been very VERY cute. I'm a sucker for brotherly love, and the main character is such a saintly loving brother. This manga had delighted me because of his existence~

It isn't the type of series that I get addicted to but it had been a pretty enjoyable read. I recommend this to those who want to read something simple and cute~ Also if you're very biased to manga with adorable babies~

And of course I noticed that there are baby TWINS in this series. I just couldn't determine if they're boys or girls x_x *loves twins by the way*

[ SCANLATED: USAGI DROP ]

by UNITA Yumi
Returning to his family's estate for his grandfather's funeral, thirty-something bachelor Daikichi is floored to discover that the old man had an illegitimate child with a much younger lover! Needless to say, the rest of the family is shocked and embarrassed by this turn of events, and not one of them wants anything to do with the little girl, who refuses to say a word. In a fit of angry spontaneity, Daikichi decides to adopt her! But is living with an overgrown teenager who can barely take care of himself the key to making Rin come out of her shell?
Chapters/Volumes Read: 4 Volumes + upto the recent raws available
I ignored this before because I am really really not fond of lolis. Kids in general actually, unless they're evil (I'm referring to fictional characters). But I see this recommended in so many series. I also see a lot of positive reviews! So I thought I should check it out already.
And when I did . . . before I knew it . . . I got hooked!
I'm still disturbed on how the old man got a kid with such a young girl though . . .
But anyway, it has serious talk and lots of drama . . . but don't worry, they're decent drama. And really touching~ You learn many things about the things you go through on raising a kid in this manga. All those sacrifices to be made yet you can still remain happy. So much family love; they're so sweet . . . daaaaaaaaaw~
Even though it's slow-paced, at least time passes! The characters develop and grow up! Oh I love their grown-up versions!
Rin's one of my favorite females. Of course I ship her with Kouki. I'm really a sucker for childhood lovers stuff~ (though Kouki was messing around with some girl, I don't know why. He is obviously madly in love with Rin but he . . .aarrrgghhh)
Anyway, another thing that I love about this manga is the crack! Haha! It's not centered on comedy though, but it was very very fun to read. As I've said, I got so hooked~
Verdict: Highly Recommended if you want to read a dramatic and comedic slice of life story with family and romantic.

[ SCANLATED: FLAT ]

by AOGIRI Natsu
Heisuke is a young man who was left in charge of taking care of his little cousin Aki for a day. Being an only child who usually stays at home alone, Aki is quiet, reserved, and will go out of his way not to make trouble for others. As they spend more time together, Aki begins to grow very attached to Heisuke, especially since Heisuke's hobby is to make sweets and desserts. The quiet Aki eventually opens up to Heisuke, and Heisuke in return teaches Aki that sometimes it's all right to be selfish and say what you really want to do.
Chapters/Volumes Read: 2 volumes
I have been seeing this often but I kept on ignoring it because . . . it has a cute shota! I really really really prefer evil shota. And if he's gonna go helpless moe, that will annoy the hell out of me. But when I figured out that it's a Mag Garden Avarus manga (I love a lot of series from that), I thought I should give it a try at least.
And oh damn . . . I downloaded everything because I got SO HOOKED! And I freakin' love Aki (the cute shota). He is very VERY adorable! I wanna squish him . . . now now now NOW!
But my absolute favorite in this series is Suzuki, Heisuke's friend! He is the series tsundere!!! Ohohohoho~ He's so cute and intelligent and gets angry so easily and he abuses Heisuke yet he's the one who cares about the guy the most! Kyaaaaaaaa~ It's my best friend love~ Heisuke's close to him too. Heisuke's light-haired while Suzuki's dark-haired, so there goes my usual light-haired and dark-haired duo!!! Kyaaaaaaa!!!! Too bad that Satou gets left behind though . . . and he knows it . . . but he doesn't mind. He's just that nice. He can't help it if Heisuke and Suzuki have their own language. Hahaha!
I wish more awesome females show up . . . or at least have more screentime. The girl who has a crush on Heisuke is such a weirdo . . .I like her! Hahaha!
Ah well, the relationship that this series focuses is Heisuke + Aki. They are soooooooooo sweet. As sweet as the goodies that Heisuke bakes. My blood sugar . . . aaaaahhh!!!!
I think this series doesn't exactly have a main plot, but more on character and relationship development. It's doing so good so far. Especially on the entertainment!!! Oh it has been so funny!!!!
Verdict: Highly Recommended if you want to read a sweet and entertaining slice of life manga with adorable shotas and crack bishies.

[ SCANLATED: MY GIRL ]

by SAHARA Mizu
Kazama Masamune - a single 23-year-old man... has a kid? During the season of cherry blossoms, his beloved passes away. He happens to meet a little girl outside work and realizes she is his daughter who was raised in secrecy by his lover. The worst spring of his life is transformed into a painful yet vivid spring.
Chapters/Volumes Read: 15 Chapters
I thought that this was going to bore the hell out of me. But since it even has a drama presently and it's been having a lot of good reviews, I gave it a try. To my surprise, it's not bad at all.
It's very very heartwarming and touching. It's pretty serious too that even children get involved in adult talk. Mature kids in animanga in this sense isn't exactly common, and it's nice to see children behaving emotionally. It can be sickening if kids are always portrayed as brats in animanga.
It's a little emo though. But at least the characters here have a reason to be angsty . . . though it's sort of their fault . . . ah well, fine, sometimes it got too angsty for me . . . but I guess not angsty enough to annoy the hell out of me.
Though it's more of a serious manga, it's actually pretty humorous though. Especially those events in the recent chapters. After all that drama . . . haha!
Verdict: Recommended if you want a pretty serious yet very heartwarming story involving family love.

[ BATCH IMPRESSION ]
I don't know if anyone has noticed but I sort of had a theme in this batch: slice of life + raising/taking care of a child. I'll try my best to do theme batches on the others.
Anyway, for this batch, ironically, I love the other manga more compare to the one I featured. Or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I dislike babies more than kids . . . but even so, the other three are really much better.
I like Gakuen Babysitters, but it really bored me and even annoyed me to some point. I only laughed at one part there while the rest are just too lame. Some simple things there have been too dramatic too. But the brotherly love fanservice and the saintliness of the main character made this series likable to me. And I do admit that it's cute.
Another series that got me a little bored is My Girl. Perhaps it's because of I don't find it as exciting as Usagi Drop. I love both but Usagi Drop is just more addicting and entertaining~
Usagi Drop and My Girl both have the single guy raising a daughter thing, and both are equally serious and heartwarming. But if you prefer more entertainment, go for Usagi Drop. But I recommend both. Both are good. Usagi Drop for me is just more addicting. Haha!
Another series in this batch that I find addicting, aside from Usagi Drop, is Flat! Oh my god . . . so much cuteness and bishie crack fanservice. This one humored and delighted me the most! Oh I love it~
For my favorite in this batch, I pick Flat and Usagi Drop. I'm not sure which I like more. Ehehehe . . .

Oneshot Collection: Liar Game - Roots of A

I used to make individual posts for each recent oneshot I've read; but I want to read a lot but don't have enough time to write a post for each titles, so lately I've been doing them by batches. However, if it's a oneshot or oneshot collection that turned out to be really really good, I can't stop myself from typing my praises about it. Hehe. So the first I shall glorify would be this one:

Liar Game - Roots of A
by Shinobu Kaitani

This volume contains the prequel of a famous psychological series called "Liar Game", and also a number of other interesting oneshots. This is something a huge Liar Game fan shouldn't miss! But don't just read the oneshot prequel, because the other stories are just as good!

[ Liar Game: Roots of A ]

This oneshot is set 5 years before the beginning of the Liar Game series wherein Akiyama Shinichi was still a 22-year old psychology college student. Him and his classmates were assigned to do profiling by their professor, and all they're given was a letter and the only thing told to them was where it was found.

[ Nine Darts ]

The main character isn't good in anything except for playing darts, or so he claims. He has been desperate in looking for a job, when finally he found work in some "rehabilitation center". That place isolates Green Disease patients, and they're being treated even worse than prisoners and are forced to do manual labor without pay. Something's not right about that place . . .

[ Three Phase - The Forbidden Divination]

A powerful woman in the business world one day told a fortune teller to determine her fortune, but she tested him first by telling her the reason why she wants her fortune to be asked in the first place. He failed to give the correct answer, thus she announces to everyone around on how incompetent he was. But the next day, he meets that fortune teller again . . . which he says to be out of coincidence. He still tells the wrong predictions but on the second time they met she began to wonder how he knew her name."

[ @Lovers ]

The main character had experience a love-at-first sight with his girlfriend, and they've been going steady for a year. However, he thinks their social upbringing has a huge gap that he thought of pretending to be a rich guy. He loves her, but he can't enjoy being with her because of that problem. One day, he hears about @Lovers, a website that will help you find a perfect match once you've registered. He tries it out for fun, and meets a girl named Satsuki online. Later, he got so hooked to it that he's starting to think more of Satsuki than his actual girlfriend!

[ The Tale of Shinobu Kaitani's Pet Dog ]

Vega is the mangaka's pet dog which he named after his favorite racehorse. He loves his dog but he seems to have problems with it . . .

You know, all of oneshots in this collection (excluding the omake about the mangaka and his dog I guess) had actually been predictable. At least to me. However, even if you're already aware of the possible twists, it still had some interesting twists you wouldn't anticipate. The overall story would still remain interesting, creative, and fascinating!

Take the Liar Game prequel for instance. Those who are familiar with the series shouldn't be surprised that Akiyama would be the only one to figure out the correct answer in that profiling assignment. In someway it had been a cliche because it followed the "only main characters know best" shounen formula. However, how he figured it out had been an interesting twist and something you wouldn't expect him to do. How he resolved the problem had been remarkable and I don't think you need to do research to validate the reasonings he has stated. Overall oneshot had been a good one, despite the flaws of being petty predictable and the little cliches/stereotypes it has added.

The same goes for the other oneshots in this story. Nine Darts has a nice moral lesson to share, and it had been a touching story with a pleasant ending. The Forbidden Divination had been the most interesting for me, because I'm a sucker for the occult and psychic stuff . . . divination included of course. Unlike the other oneshots aside from Liar Game, its story can still continue! I really really wish it will have a series! Oh please work on this after Liar Game Shinobu-sama *_* The leading guy entertains me so much~ Speaking of entertainment, the omake about the mangaka's dog had been really cute and hilarious! I don't care if they were true or not. Haha! Lastly, I never thought that the "love at first sight" idea could be explained in a technical way until I've read @Lovers. That was so awesome! And it was a very lovely romance oneshot~

I don't know if I can finih this tonight . . . . but I just NEED to have this part up first because I'm freakin' biased (I love all parts though. But Lovino's part of my top 3 you see . . .ehehe)

Ivan: These days... My boss and Feliciano's boss are getting along. Thanks to that, Feliciano and I are getting along as well.

Ivan: We've become real close, huh?
Feliciano: Y..yeah

Feliciano: HIIIIIII!!!!!

IVAN TOUCHED FELICIANO'S SHOULDER WITH A HEART FLOATING UP~
AND HE HAS THAT USUAL ADORABLE SMILE!!!!
MY DARLING BROTHERS ARE SO CLOSE TO EACH OTHER!!! PHYSICALLY CLOSE!!!! . . . but more of one of them hiding behind the other . . .AND IT'S THE "TOUGH" OLDER BROTHER WHO IS HIDING BEHIND HIS YOUNGER BROTHER!!!!
BUT I KNOW LOVINO THAT WHEN IVAN TOUCHED FELICIANO'S SHOULDER, YOU WERE ALARMED!!! ALARMED!!! YOU WANT TO INTERRUPT!!!! YOU WANT IT OUT!!!

However . . .

Natalia: *GLARES*

Ivan: That's not true . . .

OMG! IVAN! BEHIND YOU!!!!!!

Ivan: Today, I sent a letter to Francis-kun's radio show. I wonder if they'll read it. . .
Radio: Francis'sama's Radio Advice Corner!
The idea of Ivan asking "love advice" form Francis amuses me so much. Francis have an advice radio show is . . . so Francis~

Francis: Alright, the next letter is... "Good afternoon, Francis-kun. Right now, I am very troubled. What does it take for someone to love you back?" Hmmm...Lessee...That's easy! "Humor love"! That's it!!! A pick-up line is... when you pretend to be lost in the streets and say "I want to get to your bed. How should I say it?" And that's it!!
OH FRANCIS YOU'RE SO FABULOUS!!! YOU GIVE THE BEST ADVICE EVER!!!! THEY ARE SO WTFLOL!!!! BWAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!

Ivan: That doesn't pass as an answer, Francis-kun . . . *Natalia attack* AH!

[ NEXT EPISODE ]

The one on the right is CERTAINLY Roderich (Austria). But the one on the left looks like Liechtenstein . . . . I don't remember a strip with Austria and Liechtenstein together aside from the part that has already aired. Or perhaps there'll be a part focusing on Liechtenstein and then another for Austria? But there's an "X" mark on top of Liechtenstein if I'm not mistaken.
Ah, whatever. Any nation-tan will do. And I miss Austria, so next episode. . .COME NOW!!!!

Notes:
~ Translations are based on scanlations; so credits on those goes to the respective translators. Some are slightly edited though based on what I understand of the anime changes.
~ It's awkward to go fangurl over nation names so I use their human names:
[ NAME LEGEND ] (except for Ukraine, because she doesn't have an official human name) Ivan (Russia), Natalia (Belarus), Feliciano (North Italy), Lovino (South Italy), Francis (France), Toris (Lithuania), Eduard (Estonia), and Raivis (Latvia)
