The Quiz Club's president gives off papers with challenging quiz questions to recruit and gain the interest of incoming highschool freshmen. Shiki got a copy, and thought of answering them to kill time. While answering, he says in his thoughts, "Even a kid can answer this."
(12 chapters read as of the date this blog entry was posted)
POTENTIAL: A- (AMAZING!) FAVORITISM: 4.5 Hearts (ADDICTION)
Motivation: (What Made Me Check It Out)
It was about QUIZZES? As in the ones with buzzer thing? There's a manga for that? Sweet~ Giving it a try then.
Curses: (What Seems to be Bad About It)
Get rid of the ecchi. I can see that you're TRYING to please the perverts, but they're really not necessary. Your pretty girls just have to be sad and it's enough moe fanservice. So no need to show off panties for ecchi, okay. (There isn't much ecchi in this though)
Praises: (What Seems to be Good About It)
A manga about quizzes is really something unique.
And though its plot may be following some shounen cliches, the characters aren't stereotypes. Some may be geniuses, but there are times that even the "normal ones" outsmart them. It's pretty cool.
Bias: (What's Keeping Me Hooked to It)
LITERATURE, HISTORY, LANGUAGE, ARCHITECTURE, and ENTERTAINMENT TRIVIA, YES =3
And I can oh so relate to that love for books *cuddles main character*
Fangirl: (What I Love in It)
MIKURIYA (He kinda looks like Durarara!!'s Izaya if his hair is shorter. That Wicked Smile! WIN!) GENIUS BISHIES YAY xD
Nostalgia: (What It Reminds Me of)
Phi Brain (brainy shounen, w00t!), Bakuman (that competitiveness and rivalry), Hikaru no Go (Previous brainy sports series I got hooked to)
Overall:
It may seem be following the standard shounen formula, but you don't get to see sport manga centered on quizzes very often. (But it's not really like that most of the time. The main character doesn't always win)
It's not a battle of strength, and the winners aren't only those who get high scores on exams. The best players are the knowledgeable ones, from history to science to literature to anime to math to etymology and so on~ This is where the geeks and the brainiacs rule, and we get to see how charming and awesome they could be~ There are so many types of whiz peeps out there, and you don't have to be nerdy.
This has been very entertaining and educational. Oh wow its sample questions make me feel so dumb (since I can't answer majority of them, haha) but learning about them had been so much fun~ I'm hooked!
