[ Manga Discovery ] Red Raven

Red Raven
by Fujimoto Shinta

[ Demographic: SHOUNEN ]
Mafia families have been committing crimes. The government sends agents called "Red Raven" to execute them.
(4 chapters read as of the date this blog entry was posted)

POTENTIAL: B (NICE!) FAVORITISM: 3.5 Hearts (LOVE)

Motivation: (What Made Me Check It Out)
A shortie with a red cloak reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist.
Curses: (What Seems to be Bad About It)
It kept on repeating about the protagonist's special ability and scar that it was starting to get annoying. It lacked explanation on why the protagonist is working for the government, and the introduction of more "Red Ravens" felt like a last minute decision... since the earlier chapters heavily imply that there's only one Red Raven (because of the one-eyed thing), or maybe it was just like that to me.
Praises: (What Seems to be Good About It)
This shounen series has one of the most decent heroines; she's not exactly kickass, but she hasn't been the type who acts as a useless damsel-in-distress either. She believed in her strength, and have been doing what she could... even if they're not as fantastic as what the hero could do.
Bias: (What's Keeping Me Hooked to It)
Lotsa mafia~ And some supernatural/sci-fi elements too? Nice, nice~
Fangirl: (What I Love in It)
CARLOS IS CUTE xD And I think I'm gonna love Walter *_* (skull dudes rock)
Basil amuses me xD HE DOES NOT LIKE BEING STAINED. LOLz
Nostalgia: (What It Reminds Me of)
DOGS (Protagonists have an extraordinary ability... and it's something they don't really like. Basil kinda reminded me of Giovanni), Fullmetal Alchemist (a blonde shortie with a red cloak, and though he acts like a government's dog he seems to be aiming for something else)
Overall:
The main character's pretty bland, the crow's seems enjoyable to strangle, while the supporting character introduced on the second chapter got on my nerves later, but the rest of the main/supporting cast seem fantastic~
The first chapter was pretty good, though the second one was quite a downer, but it started to pick up on the third chapter. There had been progress on the story, and we get to learn more about the series' backstory and the protagonist's background.
Hopefully we get to know more about the other characters, this series is more interesting without the protagonist hogging the spotlight most of the time.
