Manga Review: Seijou Kouchakan no Jijou

Seijou Kouchakan no Jijou
by Kumiko Suekano
(Published by Shonen Gahosha in Young King Ours+ (Shonen Gahosha) )
This tale begins with Shino who was in love with a girl called Maruyama. Shino asked his best friend, Akira, to set him up with Maruyama, but instead Akira betrayed Shino. Depressed, Shino goes to spend the rest of his day binging on cakes at the Seijou Black Tea House which is run by two mental cases by the names of Shuuji and Keisuke. Mix a magical tea leaf, homosexuals, and various other things for ensuing hilarity. (Taruby)

[ OVERALL IMPRESSIONS ]

THIS MANGA DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

BUT THAT'S WHAT MADE IT SO GREAT BECAUSE IT'S SO DAMN HILARIOUS!

Hahahahahahahahahahhaha!

If you are strict with good stories or prefers characters with good characterization and has development, don't bother it is... because it'll just tease you that it will be having such but won't lead you to anywhere. The ending is the biggest blow because it's so open and didn't resolve anything at all. Not even clear to many things in the story either.

But this is a manga to be read for fun.... and the mangaka appears to be just playing around. If pleasure to fans is not yet that obvious, just check out the amount of perverted fanservice each chapter has. Nah, no censorships... except for the bottom parts I guess. Their libido is so high and relationships could either be hetero or homo... mostly homo... one of them not exactly homo. It's such a weird mix. Gender benders get the biggest delight in this series.... and funny that the main character is in a canon relationship with both a guy and a girl.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not exactly after the fanservice..... fine, except for this one:

Just when can I resist bishie doppelgangers? xD

*ehem* Okayz, you might wonder: If it sucks in many areas and you're not really fond of this type of fanservice, then why do you find this manga great?

My main reason is that it's a different type of comedy... and the ridiculously creative story had something to do with it. I don't mind the flaws since it's a comedy... and I believe sometimes things that are so absurd or crazy can make a story funny... and that's what this series is. Surprisingly, though many of the events here are so random, the manga managed to include some interesting twists! It gets me surprised! I'm impressed~

And.... I may be no fan of this type of fanservice, but I'm impressed with the blend of shoujo-ai and shounen-ai humor (It's so balanced!). I think this series could still do well without going that far, but well, this type of ecchi is better for me than those ecchi wherein all those touches and gropings were just "accidents"... guuuh.

I recommend this to fans of gender benders and those who want to try out something different yet fun at the same time. Of course I don't want to recommend this to kiddies nor to those with innocent minds ^^; Please keep your heads clean, not green. Haha!

+C: Sword and Cornett - Chapter 19

Finally I've managed to read this chapter~ I need more Belca, Linna, GORGEOUS ECO, etc. in my life. Haha~

[ SUMMARY ]

Locked inside a tower, Belca blames himself for what happened; while Linna is being interrogated for what happened. As for Eco, he managed to stay alive and was able to meet up with Musca quite easily.
After taking care of some matters, Orcelito and Kiliko discuss about the incident. Kiliko points out Belca's and Linna's attachment towards each other. He also had a theory of whom the person Linna had been referring to (which made Orcelito surprised, and Kiliko has confirmed it later) and he thinks that it's the coachman that they should be more wary of at the moment.
Belca and Linna are finally released afterwards. Belca tells the news regarding Eco and asks Linna to help him with what he has found in the book.
The elders are looking forward to the crown prince's investure.... and the same goes for the Hokulea.

[ I LOVE YOU ECO-TAN ]

Mariebelle is pretty by female Eco-tan is GORGEOUS!!!! SHET!!!
I am not sure if I'm being gay right now that I find Eco so pretty because he's actually guy but disguised as a hott chick so I dunno.... aaaaaaaaaaaahhhh xD
Anywayz, it's amusing that Musca thinks Eco could fix her hair... before and after she found out that the beautiful "woman" is Eco xD Hahahhaa!
And it appears that not only sadistic fans like me enjoys seeing Belca abused, but even actual characters in the series, specifically: ECO xD The idea of Belca having a hard time excites him... for it gives him song ideas xD Hahahahaha! Oh Eco you're so mean to Belca..... please continue~ Hahahhaha!

[ ORCELITO and KILIKO ]

Whenever Kiliko assists Orcelito in changing his clothes, they always remind me of Sebastian and Ciel in Kuroshitsuji. I can't imagine this kind of master + servant habit between Linna and Belca though.... it's so wrong LOLz.
Oh I knew that Orcelito's worried about Belca~ But it appears that he's still concerned about Musca... guuuhh... I no longer cared anymore even if it'd make Orcelito out-of-character =_=
Kiliko's awesome and evil at the same time.... awesome for realizing that Belca and Linna are protecting each other... but evil for having the idea of using Linna to have Belca behave. But hhhmmm... it's Kiliko who gave me the idea that Belca's closeness with Linna is like with Hector... in other words, he sees Linna like an older brother Belca, you don't seem to see Orcelito that way.... aaahh! Orcelito's more like your older sister, then? xD LOLz....
Linna.... like an older brother huh.... hhhhmmm... that's possible but.... NAH. Because of Mariebelle, I can't imagine it. I can't xD

[ SHET MY OTP ]

WHY is the panel above so like a Romeo x Juliet scene with Romeo declaring his love to Juliet while Juliet's in the "balcony" (I think Belca's just in higher steps of the stairs.... but my hallucinations tell me Belca's in the balcony). Scenes likes this make me automatically visualize that Belca's in Mariebelle get-up (Speaking of which, I've heard volume 4's cover is supposed to be my OTP!!! Gaaaahhh!!! But Yugyoji-sensei's draft was rejected! DAMNIT!). OMG OMG OMG Stop teasing me... squee~
Oh, Belca's line in this scene made me SQUEE so much that I had surprised my momz while she was reading something xD Belca regrets that he didn't send them away earlier.... he also says: "I depended too much on Linna, and I tried to delay him because I didn't want to be left alone."
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
OH YOU DISHONEST IDIOT FOR TELLING LINNA THAT IT'S OKAY FOR YOU TO BE LEFT BEHIND xD
But darling Linna doesn't want to leave him anywayz so.... fufufuufufufufufufufuufu
OH MARIEBELLE YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID SO AND YOUR WISH IS HIS COMMAND xD
And fufufufufu.... so Mariebelle... it's okay to be separated from Eco-tan but not with Linna?.... Linna's such a special case, huh?
FUFUFUFUFUUFUFUFUFUUFUFUFUFUFUFUUFUFUFUFUUFUFUFUFUFUFUUFUFUFUFUFUUFU

[ WHY SO CANON?! A LOVELY MOMENT ]

I am already having too many Linna x Mariebelle hallucinations but Yugyoji-sensei just had to add a scene LIKE THIS in this chapter. It's making me overflow with KYAA's and SQUEE's and DAAW's.... xD Heeeheeeheeeheeeheeheeheheheheh
Belca's so freakin' worried about Linne that he had to go THAT CLOSE just to ask that "Are your wounds fine?" question....
But nah, it's not shounen-ai.... we would be seeing huggles if it is... but Belca just grasped Linna's shoulders....
On the blushing though... I think Linna's just super touched that a prince is worried about him. As for Belca.... well... he blushes easily... blushes on anything easily... especially when he does or experiences something DAAAAW....
I admit though.... that I see this scene very differently when I'm visualizing Belca as Mariebelle. Hehehehehehe.

YUGYOJI-SENSEI!!! YOU'RE DRIVING ME CRAZY WITH THIS SERIES xD
Please continue~ LOLz~

Oh I see more Belca and Linna in the next chapter.... damndamndamndamndamn xD

Extra: I finally updated the Chapters Index... man I'm so slow ^^;

Spring 2010 1st Impressions: K-ON!! Season 2 Episode 1

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
K-ON!!
It's the final year of high school for Yui Hirasawa (guitar), Ritsu Tainaka (drums), Mio Akiyama (bass), and Tsumugi Kotobuki (keyboard); the founding members of the Light Music Club. Together with their junior member Azusa Nakano (guitar), they spend their days after school in the music room enjoying tea and sweets, and practicing music. Amidst band practice, preparations for the new student orientation performance, scouting for new members, and student responsibilities they still have time for "After School Tea Time".
At long last, the long wait is over! I am so late in watching this one but finally, time has permitted me to watch K-ON!! once again.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
As always, Yui is seen in the first sequence of the episode and this she is NOT LATE!!! Hoorah!!! She is one hour early than usual simply because she misread her alarm clock. She also wanted to be early so that she can practice her new guitar technique that she wants to use when they perform in the first year welcoming concert.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Everybody is now in senior year but not for Azusa. I guess the season 2 of K-ON will deal with recruiting new members so that the club can still continue in the next years. That will be the central theme and the biggest hindrance the girls of After School Teatime needs to face. But hey, they are the protagonists so they will pull things off in the end.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
The series started pretty well with the girls belonging to the same class. All thanks to Sawa-chan who pulled some strings to make sure that the seniors can have the chance to enjoy their high school life to the fullest.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Their first every performance for the school year went well but sadly, no one is interested to join the club. How will they solve this problem? Well..I guess I will tune in regularly for K-ON!!! :)

Anime Review: Himitsu - The Revelation -

Top Secret - The Revelation -
Animation Production: Madhouse Studios | Director: Hiroshi Aoyama | Series Composition: Satoshi Suzuki | Original Creator: Reiko Shimizu
The story takes place five decades from now, when brain scanners have been perfected to the point that the government can retrieve up to five years' worth of memories from people's minds — even if they are dead. The investigators of the National Research Institute of Police Science's 9th Forensics Laboratory must weigh the ethical choices in the ultimate invasion of privacy as they delve into people's minds to solve crimes.

[ OVERALL IMPRESSIONS ]

(It should be a 4.75; but no icon for that =()

A lot of crimes occur every single day in many parts of the world; some are solved, however many of them aren't. Lack of evidences and witnesses make it very difficult for investigators to capture the criminal. Sadly, there are also times wherein the real criminal is never caught, because of wrong suspects or wrong conclusions in cases (e.g. judged as suicide but actually a homicide). The one who would naturally know the truth would be the victims themselves, but can one interview the dead? Well, this series makes us think that it can be possible.... in a way.

Behold the MRI system: a technology developed in the future that can see the memories and thoughts of the human brain under observation. In the series it's being used by the Japanese police, particularly Section 9, to solve crimes by studying the scene of the crime from the victim's memory of the incident. Thanks to this technology, identifying the murderers have become more convenient.

Sounds simple, right? But it's actually more complicated than it seems.

This process actually raises ethical issues because of invasion of privacy. Confidentiality is also highly considered because there are secrets that when leaked can be used for bad intentions. And though identifying killers is supposed to be made more convenient with this process, there can still be difficulties encountered. For example, there are cases wherein the victim hadn't managed to see the killer's face (because the killer was wearing a mask, etc.) or not at all (because the victim was killed from behind, etc.). There are instances wherein MRI won't exactly be useful because the victim is blind anyway. Moreover, things aren't always as one sees them. There's a saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder", right? In relation to that, people at times see things differently compare to how other people do (like their loved one looking more beautiful than what she/he really looks like, etc.). Or if we go to the extremes, a person could also see hallucinations, and these are caused by various things. There are also cases where the brain is forgetful, or had some parts of his/her memory damaged.

With these hindrances, we get to realize that Section 9's cases are actually pretty tough and complicated. The members of the division need to be more observant and have keen attention to detail. They should also be able to think beyond of what they're seeing, like questioning why the victim/killer has seen such things, or done such things, and so on. And the the toughest part of all: because they also get to see how the horrifying murders occured, they had to endure watching such frightening images. Watching bizarre murders can cause one to have nightmares, delusions, and even to go insane! It's not just a horror movie after all; for what they see are real!

I love how this series considered and dealt with all of those. It's really fantastic!

It has a nice set of characters as well. It's not just some bunch of teen geniuses out to save the world; it's a group of matured adults with experience to this line of work and with sufficient knowledge in criminology and areas like psychology and programming. Each has his or her own expertise and limitations; even supporting characters get a chance to handle crucial roles and even the main characters fail big time. Not only the main duo gets the spotlight, for the others get a chance to shine as well. There is no protagonist immunity (in other words, it's not one of those series wherein allies of the main character don't die thanks to miracles) and no gender inequality either. For a cast that mainly consists of males, the series actually discourages discrimination on women, and that's greatly demonstrated by one of the show's female characters: Amachi.

(image from womentalksports.com)

I highly admire her. She may appear to be just some clumsy girl at first impression, but she actually has very good persuasion skills for she knows how to talk into people (and she researches about them... really quick and thorough). Interestingly, aside from a woman's hunch, she has this sixth sense. I guess you can say that ability of hers makes things a little too easy and convenient, but it's interesting for there are really stories (even in real life, I believe) where psychic abilities are used in police investigations. What I liked about her the most was that she was able to see through the lies in the compliments of some religious leader. That person was an obvious sexual harasser, and she was disgusted with his sweet talk... and she has figured out what he really is and brought his organization down. That was so awesome.

My top favorite character is Maki though. He's so beautiful that I sometimes see him as a girl, haha! He amuses me for odd reasons and I love his relationship with Suzuki and Aoki~ Fans see his relatioship with those two men as... something else though, especially with Aoki. Reiko Shimizu, however, writes series with homosexual relationships... so I guess that wouldn't be a surprise. Especially with the recent chapters in the manga... ehehe ^^;

Speaking of Reiko Shimizu, I greatly admire many of her works for their stories are wonderfully told and are rich in creativity. I also adore her art for such beauty and detail (my complain though is that some characters look alike so much that it's quite... a challenge to differentiate them. Fortunately the personalities are so different). The anime art style isn't as gorgeous as the manga's however, but it's good enough.

Though the anime is an adaptation of an ongoing manga series, it did some changes on the order of the cases and removed/added some events as well. I think there are even cases that are anime original, and they're as good so I have no complains. I have no complains on the story order either... because the arrangement seemed good, considering the limit of the anime's number of episodes. And since the anime studio doesn't seem to have plans of making more seasons of this series, the staff has to resolve everything on its last few episodes, or the main final arc to be particular. I like the final's attempt to make many of the past events connected, and the final case being as big as the future of Section 9 itself. It was a good attempt but... there had been inconsitencies... creating flaws on this almost-brilliant series. For example, the method on how two of the main characters became insane had been the same, but the effect had been different for Character A seemed to be still himself while Character B had been like hypnotized as a puppet. (Not mentioning names to avoid further spoilers)

But ah well, no series is perfect, and those flaws weren't that horrible anyway.... and the brilliant parts of this series are just so awesome that the bad parts have become ignorable. Haha!

This is one of the series that made me think and reflect a lot. It has a creative idea of seeing the possibility of seeing people's memories through one's brain, right? Do you think it's actually possible in real life?

I don't think so.... even if we get super advanced technology in the future.

(image from doubleexposure.com)

I'm not claiming to be absolutely correct since I'm no psychology major, but I don't think you need to be one to realize that even though the human brain is gazillion times better than a computer, it doesn't record events like a video camera. The MRI watches people's memories as if the person's eyes is like a camera and the memory is a film. Try to study yourself; do you actually remember how exactly you went down the stairs or the scenes that came to your view while looking outside the car window? You may remember what you were doing or what you saw, but the particular things you've seen on each second while doing it... I doubt that. Besides, not everyone has an excellent photographic memory. For that I even doubt that victims or witnesses could 100% identify who the violators are unless it's someone they know. It's because of these and many other factors (those I've realized after browsing the pages regarding memory in my psychology book) why I think this kind of future is impossible, unless people will do some manipulations or enhancements on the human brain, I guess.

Nevertheless, this series is not to be judged for its plausibility (it's science fiction, duh), but for its creativity~ It's actually something very simple that even a child could think of, but how the series handled that idea in a mature was really terrific~

There are already so many things to mention on why this series is cool from the story and characters alone, but the series had also been excellent in other areas. Like for instance, the music! Not only the OP and ED themes, but even the background tracks! They fit the mood of the series, especially the intense and chilling scenes. The voice actors have been doing a good job on their characters as well (great acting when they go insane~ Haha!) though I admit at times some of their reactions seem off or delayed... or maybe the delay thing was done on purpose (at times delayed reactions are more hilarious).

Himitsu has been a very interesting and thought-provoking show; overall an incredible mystery psychological thriller! I don't recommend it to those who are easily disturbed however, since it contains mature stuff and very disturbingly horrifying images (manga's more frightening though) but if you're fond of detective and psychology stuff, this series is definitely worth a try!

Durarara!! - Episode 14

This episode is mixed with srs bzns, fluffiness, and lolz. Mostly the lolz, because Shingen's so damn hilarious for a villainous type of character. I might've liked Baccano's Szilard if he has a crack personality like Shingen's, haha!

[ SLASHER: A SUPERNATURAL ]

Izaya-kun reveals to us that the Slasher is actually a supernatural being, or to be exact, it's about a sword possessing the minds of humans. Those possessed have their eyes glow red... and I guess it's pretty safe to link the Slasher to the troll that spams our chatmates. It's been talking about cutting/slashing, love, mother... on the mother thing... maybe that would be revealed already on the next episode. Hehe.
Interestingly, it appears that the sword was actually used by Shingen to get Celty's head. Why he wasn't possessed... I don't get. Or maybe he's that knowledgeable of the supernatural that he knows how to handle supernatural objects. A scientists that experiments on mythical stuff.... so interesting~ And it appears that he's not alone on it, for dear Izaya-kun loves his Norse myth theories.

[ ANRI: REVEAL WHAT'S MYSTERIOUS ABOUT YOU ALREADY ]

I honestly would've disliked Anri by now if she weren't a Narita character and... if I hadn't been spoiled on who she really is xD
What I don't like with Anri isn't because she needs protection often.... but more of because she's not being fair to dear dorky Mikado. T_T
But anywayz, I guess that this episode is already hinting that Anri has some connection the the Slasher.. and evetually to Celty as well. I want a different Anri soon....

[ MIKADO: FOREVER ADORKABLE ]

Oh Mikado.... pure pure boy is really so in love with Anri... even his best friend says so. I hope he admits already soon....
But well, the beloved dork doesn't only have his crush in his concerns, but even on his gang as well. I think leader is worried that his gang will get a bad image because of the slasher.
It's cute that it was Celty who comforted him (officially close buddies now? =3). It appears that people have forgotten about a headless Celty on TV already.... since no one made it an issue that she suddenly approached an "ordinary" highschool kid. Hehe.

[ MASAOMI: LOVES BF AND GF ]

I think this episode had already shown to us that Masaomi has officially given up on Anri? Well, he did say directly to Anri that he'll let his best friend have her. Love traingle no more? YES! And he finally had a reunion with his girlfriend. Finally.
Yellow Scarves are increasing in number now.... I can't wait to see what Masaomi will do about it... and also his gang life background~

[ IZAYA: LOVE DOCTOR WANNABE ]

BWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA *still laughing out loud as she watches a female icon with Izaya's voice*
.................................
*finally calms down*
Izaya could sense that Mikado was worried about Anri because of the slasher news... and he even exchanged private messages with him to assure the kid that Anri's alright. YOU DON'T LIKE A SAD MIKADO, I KNEW IT!!! Mikado has this magic that even a bastard like Izaya wouldn't want him to be worried xD Hahahahhaa! *still can't get off her mind that Izaya is pedo*
Izaya.... you shipper... of Mikado x Anri. Bwahehehehe.....
I think he also ships Shinra x Celty xD Yeah, he insults Shinra for his tastes (it was insulting enough to make Celty threaten him) but he has always been like that to Shinra and still enjoys to piss him off (that's Izaya's way of showing his friendship love, LOLz). Izaya was indeed so surprised that they became canon (or maybe not, since he had sort of hinted that things are happening faster than he had anticipated).... but he didn't show any objection nor disgust.
I like my fantasies of my favorite character being a shipper.... LOLz
(extra: Izaya... you are filthy rich yet you only have a ceiling fan? You've gotta be kidding me....)

[ CELTY: KYAA and DAAW ]

Celty was very very very very cute in this episode especially when she's going lovey dovey on Shinra... (when she was like playing with her fingers being shy about the topic was really adorable) her emotions can be seen through the smoke she emits xD It's a HEART shape... how cute~ I wouldn't have noticed that if it weren't for wesleydodds... and thanks to it I noticed the second heart shape. Hehe.
I'm happy that she admits it.... unlike most tsunderes who still won't admit the obvious unless it's near or the last episode of the series =_=

[ SHINRA: EPIC FAIL PERVERT ]

Shinra's a pervert.... and everybody knows it.... and people acknowledge that he got that personality from his father... however his father fails to process that fact to his brain, LOLz.
The scene when he wanted to see a naked Celty in a shower was so hilarious xD And his talks of wanting to measuer Celty's body for her wedding dress. Oh he's such an amusing pervert~
It was also very amusing to watch his face when he's being so jubilant over the fact that Celty had said to others that she does love him. Congratulations Shinra for saying bye bye to your unrequited love~
Crack!Shinra still has secrets though.... but he didn't keep it for long. I think he was afraid of saying it for he knows that Celty would want to be alone after hearing that. Haha. Oh Shinra, try to survive without Celty... you're too obsessed with her xD

[ SHINGEN: ABSOLUTE LOLz ]

He's such an asshole but it's difficult to hate him because he's sooooooooooooo hilarious xD Shinra and Celty might've been feeling the same way, for they still can't kill him (I think that'll still be the case even if you put aside his father/father-in-law relationship to them). Hahaha!
It was funny that he was so against the relationship at first for very shallow reasons... but also easily approved of it later... and even demanded Celty to call him "Otou-sama". Bwahahahahaha xD
He had also revealed such a big secret here but it was presented like it was just some joke xD How amusing that he easily got away from Celty.... in such a comical way as well. Hahahahhahaha!!!!
Thanks for appearing Shingen.... for every episode with you showing your crack personality had been so freakin' entertaining that my stomach hurts from too much laughing. Haha! Izaya even mentions that he has a twisted personality.... and Shingen saw it as flattery??? LOLz LOLz LOLz
( almost forgot: TOY GUN TO USE ON NAMIE!!!! LOLz)

[ SHIZUO: BIASED FRIEND ]

He says that only an idiot will call others idiots but since he already knows that he's an idiot, he says that it's okay. LOLz
Shizuo's a tsundere... in a way. Oh he's such a loving buddy xD
He doesn't give a damn about Dollars and the whole Slasher thing... but when he found out that it had attacked Celty, he was quickly energized to start killing someone xD Hahahaha! Because his buddy's involved, he's in! xD He's so ready that he already rode on Celty's bike xD Hahahahaha!
Celty quickly calmed him down and made him behave... and go away in the meantime. She was wise enough not to bring Shizu-chan along because she's going to meet Izaya-kun, hehe.

[ NEXT EPISODE ]

Shizuo finally on Celty's bike and a helmet looks amusing on him xD
And the interviewing guy.... oh I look forward to the time when he starts doing that xD Yay!
And I miss the Dollars otakus~
