Sora wo Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai

Sora wo Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai
aka The World Reflected in the Eyes of a Girl Looking Up at the Heavens
of KyoAni

The typical fantasy story that actually had potential to be good but just had to copy the lameness of the others.

Rating: C- SO-SO! Very average and typical whatever!
Favoritism: 5 hearts out of 10
Akuto, the main source of energy is running low and the Heavens, a world of islands, hidden beyond time, floating above ours, has united against the Magical Kingdom whom uses the most energy. To save both the Magical Kingdom and the Heavens and restore the flow of akuto, the Magical King Munto must follow a vision and find the girl Yumemi in the lower world. Yumemi herself is just a normal girl except that she is the only one who can see the islands of the Heavens floating above. When Munto appears before her she starts thinking about hers and others responsibility to the world. (ANN)

No matter how overused this type of plotline is, I always give them a chance because . . . I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff. Hehe. So yeah, I checked it out, and it did have many of the cliches that annoy me so much, but it had seemed nice and interesting, so I thought of checking out even the previous OVA's and watched this until the end.

But sadly, it jsut had to be a disappointment. *sigh*

It had been very average on many parts, like the music, theme, voice-acting, and so on. They weren't fantastic nor terrible, just so-so. It's a big disappointment that they literally reused the scenes from the previous OVA. There weren't much new scenes in the first few episodes. Almost like the exact copies of the OVA version. Heck if they're going to make a remake, at least make it something new, not recycle in a lazy way. The big change I think that happened is just that it added more events after where the OVA had stopped. But still, they ended it with a cliffhanger for the upcoming movie. So this was just to promote the movie? Fantastic! But they should've made this in just one movie, because it has been too slowpaced, in my opinion.

The biggest flaw in this series I guess is the story (overall plot, storytelling, directing, etc.). Aside from the use of the typical fantasy story plots (like the chosen one being able to save the world with the power that person didn't actually know about until recently, or the hero being able to stay alive or become super strong thanks to some stupid miracles, and so on), it just had to add a lot of stupid and nonsensical stuff. Like for instance, there's a part wherein before they started "fighting" (they just held hands and flew then there was light then that's it), the girls had a change of sailor costume first. Also, before the leading girl was finally prepared for her important and urgent mission, she had a chitchat with her friends and servants first. There was also this part where she wastes a lot of time staring then suddenly she goes goddess mode, as if she's the wisest and most character all of a sudden even though she knew so little of what's going on a few moments before. Ah, and her friends, they want to save her by commiting suicide and they ended up making the leading girl go emo and when she finally got over it she rescues them. Greatest headache to me was the part when two lovers crossed the river in order to be free or something.

Such events are so WTF?!

As for the characters, they're actually okay. The villain was too pathetic though. He wants to save the heavens by being a hindrance to the main characters even if they aim a similar goal just because he doesn't like their methods. The bad characters in the series' backstory seem more interesting than the current villains.

The good guys in the series were okay, but didn't have the chance to shine much. Main characters had their little development. The leading girl had the most character development but, like the others, it was done really poorly. Leading guy is actually okay, but his first outfit kinda disturbed me. I know it might be that world's fashion style but . . . it's just . . .ghey. But his second outfit is okay, and he's actually a nice character. Characters in this series didn't really appeal me. The only ones that had caught my attention were Ryuely (I like pretty prophetesses), Kazuya (at first glance he reminded me of CLANNAD's Tomoya, but they're very different, but both had been delinquents and had been . . .well . . CUTE! Hehe), and my favorite character in this series, Louie:
Sometimes I wonder why I still watch this even after those many headaches it's been giving me. Seeing Louie make me remember why. It's for him. Haha! I wish he had more screentime. Physically he attracts me, for being so blue and cute. Haha! He seems to be Munto's righthand man, and he seems pretty powerful and a nice guy too. Too bad he's one of the . . . minor characters. *sigh*

For the many disappointments this show had given me, I really wanted to give this a D+ but . . .I decided on a C- because despite all those many flaws and that lost potential to be a good series, at least it had been pretty interesting and it didn't have ridiculous perverted fanservice! So many series nowadays have so much of that, so I admire series that lessen such things.
