Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou

Natsume Yuujinchou
Second Season
of Brains Base

Even better than the first season! This is as awesome as Mushishi just with more youthful crack and regular characters! Haha!

Rating: A EPIC AWESOME! So addicting I cannot get enough!
Favoritism: 9.5 hearts out of 10
Continuing on from the first season, Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou follows the story of Natsume, a boy who has been able to see ghosts since he was little. Unfortunately, humans shun him, and there is not much fondness between him and ghosts either. One day, he inherits a Yūjin-Chō ("Book of Friends") from his grandmother. The book is actually full of contracts that his grandmother made to trap ghosts. As one ghost after another shows up, Natsume tries to release or help them — even while many of them seek vengeance on him. (Anime News Network)

I really liked the manga, and the first anime adaptation was done so well; and the second season is even better! Everything was better in this season: animation, music, story, characters, etc.

There's not really much difference in the animation of both seasons. There had been weird scenes, but most have been illustrated really well. Music, I have to say, previous season's opening and ending theme's have been really boring; but this season's are much pleasant to the ears. But the background music of both seasons have been good.

The characters have been fun! Both humans and youkai that Natsume had interacted with. I find it awesome that it's not your typical all characters are lame aside from main characters and special villains kind of character cast. There had been humans that are special like Natsume, but they don't exactly have the same beliefs as he does. There had been those that despise youkai, one that fights them but also cares for them, one that needs to do special methods to see them, and another that can only get a glimpse or feel them. In other words, even among the side of characters that can see youkai, there's a variety. And even if they're just minor or supporting characters, they had their moments to shine or at least had played a significant role. As for those who can't see youkai, I have to admit that they lack edcharacter development, especially the two guys that hang out with Natsume at school, but his foster parents at least had played a pretty important role in the story. Then of course there's the youkai characters! There are some powerful ones, some evil some not; there had been mischievous ones and kindhearted ones, and many more! There's also a variety even in the different race or type of beings. Even if the character had just appeared on one episode in the entire series, they still played a significant role in the overall story.

Speaking of episodes, this series is actually episodic. Though episodic, each standalone episodes hadn't been useless fillers, and all have somehow had a connection with the story. It's also good that this season had also provided some backstory on Natsume's grandmother. Even if she's no longer alive, she had greatly affected the events in the story. I am very impressed with the story development and I really liked it how they ended this season with the conclusion that you don't have to choose between spirits and humans if you can be friends with both. Humans aren't exactly the most superior beings. All creatures deserve equal amount of love and attention.

That love . . . this series is very touching and heartwarming, you know. It's hard not to fall in love with the characters and feel sad if something bad happened to them. I am impressed on how drama is presented in this series. It's not overdramatic nor were there any stupid angst. It's simply drama that can affect one's heart.

Well, this series isn't just drama, it also had a lot of comedy! It's much funnier than the previous season. All those crack and silly things . . . no matter how corny, I can't help but smile :-)

My favorite character here is Natsume. He's a kindhearted young fellow (not to mention goodlooking, haha!), it's hard not to love him. It had been fun to see his interactions with the other characters. I really love it when he's around Taki, Tanuma and Natori. His moments with Nyaanko-sensei were simply the best! Haha! And my favorite female character has to be Reiko. She simply rocks!

Oh how much I love this series! I'm actually already satisfied with just two season, but it would be very nice if there'll be another one! Natsume's very powerful after all so I look forward to seeing him do actual exorcisms without anyone else's guidance. It would also be very cool if he faces more challenging enemies. And it would also be good if not only Natsume and Madara do most of the work for a change; let more regular characters do something awesome together with them more frequently. It would also be good if there'll come a character that is almost as powerful, if not more powerful, than Natsume.

. . . . .

Whoa . . . even if this series is already so good, there are still many ways to make this even better! An anime that can still have continuous improvement even if it's already so great. Wow! Now that's a really good anime! Totally remarkable! I highly recommend this series!
