Spring 2010 1st Impressions: Weird!Romance + Meido!Romance (Extra: Magic Kaitou + DC Movie 14 Logo)

The new season turned out to be better than I expected it to be. So I thought of checking out the first episodes of the new titles that I think have a chance to be good despite my low expectations. But before that:

I WANT TO SEE THESE LIKE BADLY!!!!! KAITOU KID!!! KUROBA KAITO!!!! YOU'RE FINALLY ON SCREEN!!!! AND EVERY MOVIE WITH YOU ROCKS!!!!! THISWAITISTORTURE!!!!!!!!!!!

Now for the next two Spring 2010 series I've checked out so far:
[ Arakawa Under the Bridge ] weird is cool... but TOO weird is @_@
[ Kaichou wa Maid-sama ] see?! maid fanservice isn't necessarily perverted! T_T

[ Arakawa Under the Bridge ]

I've read the first few chapters of the manga so I already knew what to expect. Of course I wasn't that surprised with this episode... but I'm surprised with one thing: It's TOO similar to the manga (it's not 100% exact, but pretty close). As in, the order's the same, the division's the same, and so forth. O_O
Or maybe it's just me....
But still, to the people with the "anime-should-follow-the-manga-faithfully" mindset, THIS is the problem why the anime should make changes at times. It can follow the manga's mistakes, and there's nothing new to see except for colors, movement, and sounds.
I find the manga amusing... but it's just too weird for me. But there are times wherein a manga may be quite dull to me but its anime adaptation becomes likeable for me if it gets handled by a good staff and studio.... unfortunately it hadn't been like that for me in this series.
I wasn't that pleased with this episode, but I admit I'm still curious on what may happen next:

DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAW~
I just can't resist romance between weirdoes. Haha!
Oh yeah.... Kamiya Hiroshi dear is voicing the main character of this weird series again~ But hhhmm... though his acting had been excellent (he makes the character more hilarious xD) ... the voice... jsut doesn't suit the guy. I dunno why.... voice too sexy for him? *is shot*
As for the director, I still like his style... the effects here are cool! But hhhmmm... the impact and awesomeness isn't as strong as with Zetsubou Sensei and Bakemonogatari for me ^^; Hehe.
I think I'll just spoil myself on this show. If later events become very exciting for me, then I'll just marathon this perhaps, hehe.

[ Kaichou wa Maid-sama ]

I used to be hooked to its manga series... and I still love it but just not as much as before Seishun Kouryakuhon is my numbuh one Lala series that's currently being published~. If you're familiar with Faster Than a Kiss and/or Special A (this one already had an anime adaptation), this is actually quite similar to those two.... BUT KwMs is HELL BETTER than those two series. You can already see the difference in awesomeness level with just the heroine. Misa's the improvised version of Fumiko and Hikari. Shoujo needs more decent heroines....
Story-wise it's also better... though I admit it has the usual shoujo crap/cheese, but the decency of the characters and the story development make up for it. I really like the humor here as well. The maid thing turned me off at first, but it appears that it's good when shoujo handles the popular known types of fanservice, because for certain they won't be perverted... at least not ecchi level.
The first episode of Special A's anime made my head hurt (which was odd because I liked the initial chapters of the manga). Fortunately the anime staff of KwMs is giving justice to this series... so the first episode turned out well, and I have high hopes that they could continue doing good with the rest of the episodes.
I doubt it will reach Ouran's or Natsume Yuujinchou's level of brilliance, but I think this shoujo series can become one of the good ones out there ^_^
I think I'll continue watching (unless I became lazy) because the ending theme is.... the ending theme.... DAMNIT:

WHY IS USUI DOING SUCH SEXY POSES????!!!!!
NOOOO!!! IT'S NOT NOSEBLEED!!!! THERE'S JUST RED PAINT ON MY NOSE!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
*continues staring*

I'm enjoying the season so far, and things have just gotten started. I'm particularly enjoying both shows you highlight here. I like crazy humor at times, so the comedy in Arakawa is working for me. Also the chapter breaks don't seem to bother me as much as they do other people (really they seemed to go by so fast I could barely read them). Maid-sama is really helped, as you say, by the presence of a decent heroine. She has her problems, but at least she isn't a timid little airhead.

Well, I'm by-and-most in the faithfully-follow-original-material camp, since the chances of them stamping out the bad parts is usually much lower than end up taking out the good/necessary parts (happens too darn often).

I feel like Kaichou rolled a bit too fast in EP1. IIRC they establish Usui as Misa-chan's school rival (since he's the only one who can stand up to her) before the cover gets blown. Kinda lost its impact here...

@ abandonedfactory
I like crazy humor as well but... hhhhmmm... arakawa's style doesn't seem to be my type.
On KwMs, I hope more shoujo series try to make decent heroines as well.

@ Aorii
I agree that it happens often for anime to screw up the original, but for me it's just as boring if it's totally the same x_x The anime seldom gets good staff unfortunately, while the manga just depends on the good mangaka~

Ahahaha! I can't recall the events of KwMs's first chapter, and I don't want to bother myself to reread it just to recall. But I did the same for Special A.... I guess KwMs's first episode has impressed me because of the disappointment I got from Special A =_=

In any case, that first few mins of the ED theme is gorgeous~ Hahahaha xD
