Big Order
by Esuno Sakae

[ Demographic: SHOUNEN ]
Hoshimiya Eiji, a highschool student, wished for the destruction of the world.
In his town, wishes do come true.

(1 chapter read as of the date this blog entry was posted)

POTENTIAL: A (EPIC!) FAVORITISM: 5 Hearts (OBSESSION)

Motivation: (What Made Me Check It Out)
The Mirai Nikki mangaka's new series!!!!!!!
Curses: (What Seems to be Bad About It)
I think the romance is gonna suck... that, or very WTF like Mirai Nikki, assuming that the protagonist is gonna end up with that pigtailed girl.
And the "fairy girl" seems to have some bias towards the main character. That's such plot convenience. Come to think of it, Yukiteru of Mirai Nikki was favored as well.
Also, the character designs lack originality. They look and act too similar to their Mirai Nikki counterparts.
Praises: (What Seems to be Good About It)
Though I complained about the lack of originality between the works of the same author, if you're not familiar with Mirai Nikki, the characterization in Big Order is actually quite fantastic. And yeah, though the similarities are there, the characters as a whole are totally different from their counterparts. Like the protagonist for instance, with his ability there's no way he's gonna be the "useless type" like his counterpart.
Anywayz, the characters are really incredible. The only one with chances of being categorized as one of the "typical ones" would be the little sister, but knowing Mirai Nikki, that's very unlikely.
And oh, it feels pointless to complain about cliche in this series. I mean, when something typical happen, I rant, then afterwards it shows some amazing twist which was just freakin' awesome.
Bias: (What's Keeping Me Hooked to It)
The first chapter in this series doesn't make my mind go crazy like Miria Nikki did, BUT IT'S JUST AS AWESOME!!! I find it so unlikely to see it go wrong xD
Besides, the "wish granting" thing is sorta like a fairy tale reference. Which is SO COOL.
And I see skeletons and monsters (they might be their familiars or manifestations of their power or something) WHICH WAS REALLY COOL!
You know who the main character's idol is? It's "Great Villain". That was just AWESOME xD
And oh, it reminds me of series that I adore a lot!!! (see "Nostalgia" section of this post.) Can't help it xD
Fangirl: (What I Love in It)
I don't think my favorite has shown up yet (where's the Akise Aru counterpart? xD)
I like Daisy, the Murumuru counterpart (She's HOTTER! And I love the mysterious girl types~). Her looks are similar to Minene though, maybe that's what made her my initial favorite among the females, haha.
Nostalgia: (What It Reminds Me of)
Mirai Nikki (duh). Bloody Monday (the looks-ordinary-but-not-really main character who can do BIG things and his beloved sickly sister). Death Note (protagonist has been doing bad stuff, but he's actually doing it for good, at least that's his plan). Hajimete Aku (both protagonists want to conquer the world xD) Code Geass (it's gonna be spoilery if I mention why)
Overall:
Mirai Nikki readers will find this manga nostalgic, because the characters seem so similar to the ones we already know. Well, it only seems that way.
Big Order is very different from Mirai Nikki so far, in terms of plot and characterization (not character design), but it's just as AMAZING! The first chapter is already a freakin' page turner, full of exciting and intriguing scenes.
No way it's gonna be "just a typical battle manga". The supernatural phenomenon and the abilities that the characters posses are pretty original (not 100% unique, but still, it's something different).
There may be some cliches here and there (ugh, another transfer student thing), but they're often used to surprise or blow your mind later. The mangaka knows how to use cliches. Not complaining.
My only worry I guess is how it's gonna end (that was my problem with Mirai Nikki, but ah well, at least I'll only worry about that in the far future, haha!)
