[ Manga Discovery ] Kuronoa

Kuronoa (Cry No More)
by Katou Chihomi, Kirishima Sou, and Kuon Aki

[ Demographic: SHOUJO ]
Twins sisters got involved in a bus accident. Both of their souls are alive, but only one of them can return to the living. The one who retrieves most memories gets to return, and it's upto their guardian spirits to help them accomplish that.
(4 chapters read as of the date this blog entry was posted)

POTENTIAL: B (NICE!) FAVORITISM: 2.5 Hearts (NEUTRAL)

Motivation: (What Made Me Check It Out)
bishie. YAY. cool uniform. WHEE. gun. YES. eyepatch. OH. rabbit ears. OOOOOH YES LOL.
Curses: (What Seems to be Bad About It)
THE HEROINE. BULLSH#T.
SHE WANTS TO MAKE THINGS COMPLICATED BY ADDING MORE DRAMA AND MAKING MISUNDERSTANDING AND BEING PATHETIC SO JUST DIE.
And what's with the story?! They just needed to collect memories? The heroine's rival had been so many steps ahead and had A LOT of time... WHY DIDN'T SHE WIN YET? What, no time for drama? The "nice" ones should win in the end no matter how behind they are thanks to some stupid miracle? Screw that!!!
Praises: (What Seems to be Good About It)
This is.... untypical shoujo. Untypical in a sense that the things here aren't that commonly seen in other shoujo series; like a bishie with rabbit ears and an eyepatch for instance. Then twins sharing one body, with one of them REALLY cruel. There are even CANON relationships; both of them. The one-sided romances have been expressed openly. None of the usual tsunderes. It's very refreshing ^^
Bias: (What's Keeping Me Hooked to It)
All the bishies here had been huggable.
Fangirl: (What I Love in It)
Bias aside, the bishies here had been very huggable (well, one of them is questionable). I liked Minori's boyfriend the most... he's the sweetest one, in my opinion. Rabbit boy ranks a close second. Maybe the mangaka should do a BL manga instead.... can't make decent female characters =_=
Nostalgia: (What It Reminds Me of)
Pandora Hearts (the memory collecting thing... and the rabbit ears)
Overall:
It's a pretty unique fantasy series with psychological elements. Some of the characters are pretty difficult to appreciate, but majority of them are quite lovable ^^ The story's interesting and promising... the existence of the heroine just ruins everything for me. But then again, this one might not have a story if she's not included in it. It makes me think that this might've been better as a oneshot instead of a long series with the heroine giving me headaches T_T
Well, overall, it's good but I can't say I like it because of the headaches I experience while reading it (the fun parts weren't enough to make up for the parts I don't like in this series =_=). But I can't say I don't like it either; it's only the heroine I can't stand =_=
