New Flavors: Umineko no Naku Koro ni

Umineko no Naku Koro ni (Legend of the Golden Witch)
by Ryukishi 07 and Natsumi Kei
Umineko no Naku Koro ni takes place primarily in the year 1986, during the time frame of October 4 and October 5 on a small, secluded island named Rokkenjima 10 km around owned and lived on by Kinzo, the head of the wealthy Ushiromiya family. Kinzo is near death, and eight of his family members arrive on the island for the annual family conference, where the adults plan to discuss how Kinzo's assets will be divided once he is dead. Also on the island are three family members who live there, five of Kinzo's servants, and his personal physician. After the eight family members arrive, a typhoon traps them on the island, and shortly after, strange things start to happen and people start dying.

I saw this title from my online twin's journal (and whatever she likes is usually what I will also like, and vice versa) and the plot and genre (psychological, mystery, etc.) is totally my kind of thing. I got more curious to check it out because it will be having an anime next season!
So when I did, I'm honestly not that impressed with the story flow, but it still remained interesting and intriguing. It's slightly perverted but comedy was fun. Characters are a little stereotypical, but at least not all of them are teens and kids; there are adults around, which are their parents. I also find it pretty rare to see a main cast that are related, as in related by blood. I love seeing what's not commonly seen in other series.
Anyway, even after reading just 3 chapters (and the prologue), I already like this series. The little girl going "Uuu~" annoys me though. The rest of the characters are just so-so to me, except for Kanon. I already love that guy and I loved him more after knowing that he's the protective little brother type. And is Shanon his twin sister? Twins~ How lovely! Haha!
The manga's okay. It even got me curious to read the sequel (Umineko no Naku Kori ni Episode 2: Turn of the Golden Witch ). But I think the anime could make a lot of improvements on this. I have high hopes on its anime adaptation. It seems really promising.
In summary, the manga's okay but I think the anime will do better. I still recommend this to dark mystery fans though. Fans of the Higurashi series would most likely love it, since I think this is a story following it in some way. There are perverted stuff though, thanks to the main character *sigh* but it's not ecchi enough to make you puke so much. Hehe.

Yeah, there seems to be a lot of generated hype for this upcoming anime... It may possibly persuade me to try it out, lol.
